In today's America, multitude of church pastors are quiet about the full counsel of God.  There are now barriers to the preaching of such because for far too long the church has accepted a role different from the founding of this nation. 

The Declaration of Independence tells us our "Creator" gives us unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and it is not man who gives us these.

2.  Supports leadership that deceive the American people by giving them government shackles in the form of food stamps and policies that promote pornography, killing the unborn and promotion of lifestyle that God considers an abomination (from Kindergarten to 12th Grades in our public schools.)

THE ENEMY SEEKS TO KILL, STEAL AND DESTROY AND WHEN OUR PASTORS FAIL TO FEED THE SHEEP (WITH THE FULL COUNSEL OF GOD AND TRUTH AS HE SEEKS TRUE WORSHIPERS THAT WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH) CAN WE REALLY WONDER WHY THE JAMIE FOXX OF TODAY AND THE OBAMAGRESSIVES OR PROGRESSIVES WIN? The Magi, the Monarch, and the Messiah by John Eidsmoe

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. Matthew 2:1-2
For 2,000 years, the wise men of the east have intrigued us. Who were they? From whence did they come? Whom were they seeking? And why?
Could their quest have had anything to do, even in part, with the principles of law and government that western civilization has held so dear?
I believe it did. It should not surprise us that these kings or magi would be concerned about law and government. Christ is our personal Savior, but He is lord of the nations as well (Isaiah 9:6-7; Revelation 12:5, 19:15). Matthew emphasizes Christ's role as lord of the nations by presenting the account of the magi who came to worship Him. Luke emphasizes Christ's role as personal Savior by presenting the account of the shepherds, common men who came to worship Him. Both are necessary for a complete understanding of His earthly mission.
They sought what man has sought from the beginning: the Savior who would release man from the curse of Adam's Fall and restore him to his original paradise.
Genesis 3 records that God expelled our original parents from Eden and cursed the ground for their sake after they sinned against Him. But God also promised them a Savior, the "Seed of the Woman" (3:15) who will bruise the head of the serpent. Throughout the generations the faithful have looked for the coming of God's promised Messiah.
The Rise of the Messianic State
But others have looked to false saviors, and counterfeit messiahs have arisen in every age. God had promised in His Word that the Savior would come first as a suffering servant (Isaiah 53:1-12) and only later as a victorious king (Revelation 19:11-21). But many, even among God's own people, looked only for the latter. The Christ on the Cross was rejected or ignored, as man looked to the civil government realm for salvation and the restoration of the Golden Age.
Not that civil government is ungodly. Quite the opposite. God ordained civil government (Romans 13:1-6; I Peter 2:13-17) to restrain the exercise of sin, enforce order, protect human rights, and foster social organization. Those who are called to civic office have a high godly responsibility to perform.
The problem arises when men look to civil government to perform the functions God has delegated to the Church, or when men look to the Church to perform the functions God has delegated to civil government -- when civil rulers seek to become saviors, and when false messiahs become kings.
Most emphatically, this does not mean government must be divorced from God, or that law must be divorced from Biblical morality. Government functions best when it is based upon the solid foundation of the Ten Commandments. Luther and Calvin both spoke of the Decalogue as the embodiment of natural law, and Dean Wigmore of Northwestern University School of Law called the Ten Commandments "the greatest short moral code ever formulated."
But government's role is limited to enforcing legal principles of right and wrong and defending the liberty and safety of the people. God never intended that civil government should change basic human nature, eradicate all sinful impulses, and usher in the Golden Age. Government must be godly, but government must not try to become God.
But almost from the beginning, people looked to civil rulers to usher in the Golden Age. As Ethelbert Stauffer says in his classic work Christ and the Caesars (Philadelphia: Westminster, 1952, 1955),
One of the earliest longings of mankind is the longing for God to appear on earth. Egyptians and Persians, Greeks and Romans, relate mysterious myths of gods who once walked the earth in human form. In annual festivals they celebrated the cult renewal of that mythical theophany -- the epiphany of Apollo, the advent of the sun-god, the birth of the heavenly child of the Age, who was to lead in a new era of salvation. With ecstatic cries and hymns they called on the god to appear: "Come and do not delay!" For where the deity moves as a man among men, the dream of the ages is fulfilled, the pain of the world is scattered, and there is heaven on earth.
Such longings represent a corruption of God's promise to send the Messiah, and the tendency to look to the State for that which only God can deliver. And when people expect the State to do that which only God can do, they begin to worship the State as God.
Deification of Emperors
This was common in the pagan world. State worship and emperor worship were the rule rather than the exception. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, in his Antiquities of the Jews, tell us that Nimrod took a leading role in the building of the Tower of Babel to avenge himself on God for having destroyed the world by the Flood, and that Nimrod changed the government into a tyranny. Alexander Hislop, in his classic work The Two Babylons (Neptune, NJ: Loiseaux, 1916, 1959), says the Sumerians made Nimrod their king, and after his death they deified him and worshipped him as chief of their pantheon of gods.
Worshipping a ruler as though he were a god seems strange to many westerners. Through centuries of Bible teaching we have come to understand God as all-powerful and all-knowing, infinitely above all that man is or could ever be. In the western view no man could ever become God.
But the pagan view is different. Gods are superior to men in knowledge and power, but they are not all-knowing or all-powerful; nor are they perfectly just or righteous. The gods have character flaws much like ours, and they find themselves in the same intrigues and betrayals as men, only on a more colossal scale. The difference between gods and men is one of degree. According to Greek mythology, somewhere between gods and men were heroes. Hercules was not a god but a hero, a man who achieved immortality by his courage and valor.
In the pagan view, then, the idea that the king could be a god, or descended from the gods, or ascended to godlike status, is not that far-fetched. And of course, pagan kings employed all the trappings and ceremonies to encourage that belief.
Israel vs. Pagan State-Worship
God's Word and God's people stood in marked contrast to this pagan view. Israel began as a confederate republic of twelve tribes governed by elders and judges, with no king in Israel but God Himself. The day would come when Israel would demand a king so they could be like the nations around them, but even then, Israel's king was to be a limited monarch. God spoke prophetically through Moses in Deuteronomy 17:14-20:
When thou art come unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me;
Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the Lord thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother.
But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the Lord hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.
Unlike the Egyptian pharaoh who proclaimed himself to be a god and who was worshipped and obeyed as a god, Israel's king was to be one of the people. He must be a Jew, not a foreigner; being of one blood with them, his countrymen were less likely to regard him as a god. He was not to accumulate great wealth or power, and he was to write out a copy of the law of God, read from it daily, and follow it throughout his reign. The great object was that he be under the law of God, and that "his heart be not lifted up above his brethren." The king ruled by the law of God and according to the law of God, but he himself was not God but rather one of the people.
Daniel vs. State-Worship
This was the message of the prophet Daniel to the great Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar -- that God "removeth kings, and setteth up kings."(Daniel 2:21) Nebuchadnezzar erected a great golden image and commanded all to fall down and worship it (Chapter 3); the image represented the Babylonian state, and Nebuchadnezzar as the head of state. Daniel's three friends were willing to show all the respect due a great Babylonian king, but they were willing to face death by fire rather than worship this image or that which it represented (3:17-18). As Daniel proclaimed in 4:32 and as King Nebuchadnezzar finally came to understand at the end of Daniel Chapter 4, "the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will."
The Apostle Paul declared that the civil ruler is "ordained of God" and is the "minister of God to thee for good." (Romans 13:1-6) Yet Paul wrote these words from the Corinthian jail, indicating that governmental authority is not absolute. Peter also wrote of the duty to obey civil rulers (I Peter 2:13-17), but when commanded to stop preaching the Gospel he and the other apostles declared, "We ought to obey God rather than men."
Jesus: Render Unto Caesar
In the time of Jesus's earthly ministry the Jews faced testy relations with the Roman authorities. In Luke 20:19-25 we read that the chief priests and scribes asked Jesus whether it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus noted the image and superscription of Caesar on the coin and said, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's." Lord Acton wrote concerning this passage,
...when Christ said "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's, He gave to the state a legitimacy it had never before enjoyed, and set bounds to it that had never yet been acknowledged. And He not only delivered the precept but he also forged the instrument to execute it. To limit the power of the State ceased to be the hope of patient, ineffectual philosophers and became the perpetual charge of a universal Church.
At the time of Christ, Rome was in transition from republic to empire. The SPQR (Senatus Populus Que Romana) that had governed Rome for half a millennium was becoming a rubber stamp for the emperors who increasingly claimed for themselves the attributes of divinity. Octavian subdued the empire, and the Senate gave him the title Augustus Caesar (Divine King). He issued coins superinscribed Caesar Divi Filius, "Caesar Son of God." Throughout the Empire temples were built and sacrifices and prayers offered to the goddess Roma and the god Augustus, and the poet Virgil proclaimed of Augustus, "This is the man, the one who has been promised again and again," the world savior who was usher in the age of gold. As Stauffer observes, at this time the ancient world trembled with excitement that deliverance was at hand.
The Magi Seek the True King
And yet -- the wise men of the east came not to worship Augustus, but to seek Him who is born King of the Jews.
Who were these wise men? Matthew calls them magoi or Magi ((2:1). They probably came from the eastern countries of Persia or Babylon. The priestly caste in those countries known as the Magi had existed for centuries and may have borne some similarity to the Celtic Druids. The Bible does not call them kings, but Tertullian writing around 200 AD says they were well-nigh kings. They were highly influential advisors to the Persian and Babylonian kings, as Daniel attests (Daniel 1:19-21; 2:2, 24; 4:7-9; 5:7), and probably played a prominent role in selecting a new king. In so doing, they looked to the will of the heavens, and they believed the will of the heavens was revealed through the stars. And as they looked to the heavens they saw the Star that led them to Bethlehem.
No scientific theory can adequately explain that Star. Men have called it a meteor, a comet, a heliactical rising, a supernova. But none of these theories can explain a Star that appeared in the east, led the Magi to the west slowly enough that they could follow, then suddenly reversed course in Jerusalem and led to the southeast to Bethlehem. The Star must have been a special creation of God, perhaps a theophanic appearance of God Himself in the Person of the Holy Spirit to lead these Magi to Jesus Christ.
But why would these Magi care that One had been born King of the Jews? Possibly they understood the Hebrew concept of law and government, for the Persians recognized that the king is subject to the law and powerless to change the law (Daniel 6:8, 12, 15). More likely, they remembered Daniel the Prophet, who had once led the Magi himself.
Daniel: Master of the Magi
Daniel had been taken captive to Babylon around 605 B.C. He was recognized to be ten times wiser than the Magi and astrologers (Daniel 1:20) and rose to prominence in Babylon and later in Persia. He was a trusted advisor to the Babylonian and Persian kings, and in Daniel 2:24 he used his influence to save the Magi from execution. In Daniel 4:9 he is called "master of the magicians (magi)," so very likely the learned Magi of Christ's time would recall Daniel and his writings.
In Daniel 9 we read the most precise of all Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming of Jesus Christ:
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon the holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
The "weeks" (Hebrew hephtah) of Daniel 9 are commonly interpreted as seven-year periods. Sixty-nine seven-year periods equal 483 years. King Artaxerxes of Persia gave the decree to restore and build Jersualem in 445 BC. 483 years later would be 38 A.D., but the Hebrew year was twelve 30-day months or 360 days. Factoring in the difference would bring us to 31 A.D., the likely date of Christ's crucifixion.
We do not know how much of this the Magi understood. But they remembered the words of their old master, Daniel, and knew that the salvation of the world would come not through the legions of Caesar but through the One Who would be born King of the Jews. And without condoning astrology, God used the means most familiar to them to lead them to His Son.
But the world continued to look for a conquering prince, not a suffering savior. Augustus reigned well for the most part, and his reign brought in the pax romana or Roman peace. But the pax romana only restrained sin and evil; it did not conquer them. And after the death of Augustus his plan for government crumbled.
But the ancient dream of the god-man who would bring heaven down to earth remained.
With the rise of the Roman Empire, the classical longing for a saviour was given a political form. The coming savior was the Emperor, and as the people's hopes were dashed with the tragic collapse of each Emperor, they thirstily looked with equal hope to the next.
The Messianic State Turns Demonic
When Nero ascended the throne in 54 A.D. at the age of seventeen, the philosopher Seneca said of him,
...as the red of morning drives away dark night, as neither haze nor mist endure before the sun's rays, as everything becomes bright when my chariot appears, so it is when Nero ascends the throne. His golden locks, his fair countenance, shine like the sun as it breaks through the clouds. Strife, injustice and envy collapse before him. He restores to the world the Golden Age.
A lover of Greek culture, Nero proclaimed himself to be "Zeus the Liberator" and embarked upon a reign of madness, tyranny, and bloodbaths. He covered Christians with tar and set them up as living torches in the imperial parks, murdered his mother and wife, and kicked to death his lover who was expecting his child. After fourteen years the army revolted, and as Nero committed suicide his dying words were, "What an artist dies in me!"
Succeeding emperors claimed to be the best of gods but acted as the worst of men. And still, men looked to Rome for salvation, seeking the City of God through the City of the Earth. As Stauffer so graphically wrote,
The triumph of the civitas dei was to be reached by the self-exaggeration and self-destruction of the civitas terrena. The self-exaggeration and self-destruction of the classical advent philosophy was completed in the third century A.D. This is the century of which the schoolboy knows nothing because no young mind can bear the knowledge of what happened then. It was the century of the assassination of the emperors, of the sarcophagi of the dance of death, of the systematic persecutions of Christians, the century of twisted titles. Magnus, Maxiums, Maximinus, Magnentius, Maxentisu, Maximianus, Maximilianus, are the names given to themselves by those who wanted to be accounted important. In this century the political eschatology on which men had been nourished for thousands of years ran amok through the Roman world. About the year 260 Gallienus struck a coin with the inscription, "The genius of the Roman people has entered the capital of the empire." This patron spirit was incarnate in himself, the emperor Gallienus. In the same decade the imperial genius was murdered. In the year 275 Aurelian was celebrated as "god and lord from birth." In the same year the divine lord was murdered. The following year the emperor Probus ascended the blood-girt throne and struck a series of coins with the famous inscription Adventus Augusti and the portrait of the emperor riding up with his hand raised in greeting and blessing, led by the goddess Victoria. In the year 282 Probus was murdered. In 287 a coin of the emperor Carausius appeared, and on it we see Britannia greeting the emperor, as he arrived from the Continent, with the advent greeting Expectate Veni, Come, Thou Longed-for One. In the Advent hymn the words are "Thou Longing of all the world." Carausius was murdered...
State Worship Today?
And the story goes on, through the collapse of Rome, the Dark Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, merchantilism, colonialism, imperialism, the modern age, the postmodern and so on down through the years. In an age in which many pride themselves as being too sophisticated to believe the state is divine, the German philosopher Hegel proclaims that the State is god walking on earth, though he used the term "god" in the sense of the World-spirit. An age which rejects the transcendent God of the Bible places man, and the State as the greatest of man's institutions, on the throne in the place of God. We give to the State all authority, we expect the State to make all important decisions, we look to the State for all material blessings, and we trust the state to make our laws and define our values. Truly, for many modern Americans the State has become our god.
And amid all this intrigue and carnage, Christ was born in a Bethlehem stable. He grew as a humble child in Nazareth, He lived and taught and served among men. He died on a Roman cross, and His enemies thought they had conquered Him. But there He paid the atoning price for the sins of the world, washing away forever the sins the emperors could only imperfectly restrain. And there He established His Kingdom, a Kingdom that is not of this world but that will endure forever.
Wise Men Still Seek Him
The Magi were wise men indeed. We don't know how much they understood, but we know they made wise choices. They passed by the Caesars and the Herods of their day, and came to worship the newborn King. They were influential men in their day, and they respected and served the kings of their respective lands. But their souls' allegiance was to the King of Kings, to Him who wears the mitre of eternity. They respected the godly state and that ruler who governs according to Biblical principles. But they feared the messianic State that seeks to make itself god. They knew that government service is an honorable vocation, but they also knew that earthly government will never usher in the Golden Age. Only God through His true Son can do that.
And on Christmas God did become man. God became incarnate, taking upon Himself human flesh so that He could redeem mankind through His Death on the Cross, His Resurrection, His Ascension, and His Second Coming. Wise men sought Him then, and wise men seek Him now.
Venite, Adoremus Dominum!

The Heritage Foundation plan will lead to a balanced budget in 10 years!  By 2022, this plan will generate surpluses, allowing us to pay down our burgeoning national debt.

Everyone is talking about the so-called "fiscal cliff."  Prior to the November election, the two Presidential campaigns barely mentioned the fiscal cliff; and it was not discussed in the three Presidential debates.  With the election behind us and January 1 fast approaching, it is a different story. 

The famous fiscal cliff is the combination of the nearly $500 billion in tax hikes ("Taxmageddon") and the mandatory federal spending cuts ("Sequestration").  If the White House and Congress fail to act, we will reach the dreaded fiscal cliff on January 1, 2013.

Taxmageddon will amount to $494 billion in tax hikes.  Most of these are the result of long-standing policies that expire at the end of 2012.  On an individual level, average taxpayers will see their taxes increase by about $2,000 to $4,000 next year!

The poorly written Budget Control Act (BCA) contained an Obama Administration-proposed procedure, called "Sequestration," that would automatically slash $1.2 trillion in spending starting January 2, 2013. 

Half of the cuts are to come from national defense and the other half will come from non-defense items.  Even though defense represents only 18 % of total federal spending, it has been targeted for a disproportionate share of the cuts.  Under Sequestration, defense will experience a 10 percent reduction, jeopardizing our national security in the process.

The White House and Congress are good at one thing -- "kicking the can down the road."  I will not bore you with the tedious details leading to the present precarious predicament.  Clearly, their procrastination on making the tough decisions has brought us to the edge of the precipice. 

If Obama and Congress take no action, the U.S. will go off the fiscal cliff and experience another recession.  According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the country will see a drop of 0.5 % in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and an increase in the unemployment rate to 9.1 % in 2013.

Current Picture of the Federal Government

The two major aspects of the federal budget are Spending (Outlays or Expenses) and Revenue (Receipts or Taxes).  Government reports typically use the terms "outlays" and "receipts."  For Fiscal Year 2012 (which ended September 30, 2012), the figures are as follows:

The federal government spent $3,538 billion ($3.538 trillion) in FY 2012; the federal government took in $2.449 trillion (revenue from taxes).  This means that the budget deficit for this year was $1.089 trillion.  In simple terms, the government spent $1.1 trillion more than it took in from taxes.

However, the "Real Deficit" for the year was $1.276 trillion.  On September 30, 2011, the national debt was $14.790 trillion; by September 30, 2012, the national debt had grown to $16.066 trillion.  In the 12-month period from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2012 (FY 2012), the national debt grew by $1.276 trillion.

Therefore, the FY 2012 Revenue of $2.449 trillion is 15.8 % of GDP; the Spending of $3.538 trillion is 22.8 % of GDP.  The $1.089 trillion deficit is 7.0 % of GDP.

The national debt (Total Public Debt Outstanding) on 9.30.12 (9.28.12 given) was $16.066 trillion.  For this date, the Debt Held by the Public was $11.269 trillion and Intragovernmental Holdings was $4.797 trillion.

A national debt of $16.1 trillion represents 103% of GDP.  Our country is in real trouble!

The CBO typically uses Debt Held by the Public instead of Total Public Debt Outstanding to represent the National Debt.  Under the CBO interpretation, the $11.3 trillion Debt Held by the Public is 73 % of GDP. 

According to the CBO’s Alternative Fiscal Scenario, by 2037, national debt (Debt Held by the Public) will explode to 199 % of GDP, driven by growth in spending that will reach 36 % of GDP.  Clearly, our government is out of control and headed in the wrong direction.

It might be helpful to have a better understanding of federal spending.  In Fiscal Year 2012 (which ended 9.30.12), spending was as follows:

Peterson Foundation -- Solutions Initiative

In this political climate, sound reasoning and wise counsel are hard to find.  Our lawmakers must strive to listen to the voices of reason when making their decisions about our country's economic future. 

In 2011, the Peter G. Peterson Foundation organized the Solutions Initiative, giving grants to six organizations so they could develop long-term plans for America's survival.  With the fiscal cliff looming, Peterson’s "Fiscal Solutions Initiative II" called for updates to address 2012 Post-Election: The Fiscal Cliff and Beyond.

The participants for this second project are the following: The Heritage Foundation, the conservative American Action Forum (AAF), the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), the liberal Center for American Progress (CAP),  and the Economic Policy Institute (EPI). 

The Peterson Foundation hosted an event in Washington, D.C. on November 16, 2012 in which the five organizations presented their plans.  The webcast of this conference is quite interesting.

Under the Heritage plan, the annual deficit will drop to zero by 2022.  In fact, Revenue will exceed Spending by 0.9 % of GDP in 2022 (a surplus will be created).  By 2037, the national debt (given as Debt Held by the Public) will be reduced to 28.0 % of GDP.  Considering that today's Debt Held by the Public stands at 73 % of GDP, a figure of 28.0 % is amazing!  A shrinking national debt is a worthy goal, indeed.

Because the Heritage Foundation's plan is better than the other plans and yields the best results, I will focus on the Heritage plan in this report.

The Heritage Foundation Plan

The Heritage Foundation updated the Saving the American Dream plan to address the fiscal cliff and rein in spending.  The plan features a pro-growth tax reform plan to expand the economy and generate more tax revenues.  At the same time, the plan will restructure entitlement programs to provide real economic security for seniors. 

The Heritage plan balances the federal budget within 10 years without raising taxes!  (In 2022, Revenue will be 18.5 % of GDP and Spending will be 17.6 % of GDP.)  Annual deficits will be eliminated.  Because we will generate surpluses, we will actually reduce the national debt.  

The Heritage plan focuses government assistance on those who truly need it with a guarantee that no American would have to live in poverty.  Finally, the plan recognizes the constitutionally authorized power to make national defense a core priority of the federal government.

The White House and Congress must take action immediately.  The Heritage Foundation is urging lawmakers to act swiftly yet carefully to stabilize the current situation.  In Heritage's words, lawmakers should:

• Preclude the huge tax hike known as Taxmageddon;
• Prevent the reckless, automatic defense cuts, preferably by choosing alternative savings;
• Renounce any other tax increases;
• Resist the temptation to conjure further ad hoc budget schemes and grand bargains; and
• Return as soon as possible to the regular practice of congressional budgeting.

The Heritage Plan Will Control Spending

I mentioned that the two major aspects of the federal budget are Spending and Revenue.  The situation with the federal government is not a revenue problem; it is a spending problem.  We simply spend too much money!

The primary driver of spending is clearly the major entitlement programs: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.  Together, they comprise 42 % of federal spending.  Another huge category is means-tested welfare, one of the largest areas in the budget.  In FY 2011, the 79 federal welfare programs totaled a whopping $717 billion!

The Heritage Foundation portion of the Peterson "Solutions Initiative II" report is found on pages 49 - 53.  Heritage stated the following:

          The Heritage plan reflects the need to rein in spending immediately and rethink major programs. Spending on the open-­ended Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid entitlements must be brought under control, and the core foundations of these programs should be strengthened. The following principles guided the policy solutions in Saving the American Dream:

Heritage strongly recommends that we need to address health care, the biggest driver of spending.  The flawed Obamacare law should be repealed and replaced with a true patient-centered, market-based model.  This must include reforms to Medicare, Medicaid, and tax treatment of health insurance. 

Medicare's finances must be brought under control.  In lieu of traditional Medicaid, able-bodied individuals and families should receive direct federal government assistance in the form of tax credits or direct assistance to enable them to buy private insurance coverage.  For the disabled and frail elderly, Medicaid would remain a joint federal–state safety net program.

Social Security is running permanent cash flow deficits, has severe programmatic flaws, and needs to be reformed.  Social Security’s eligibility age should be gradually increased in tandem with that for Medicare.

Heritage also addresses other areas of spending.

          Defense cuts are already reducing military readiness. Thus, the defense portion of the BCA cuts is dangerously flawed and must be reversed. The sequester for defense spending (including the 2013 cuts) is eliminated and more than offset with reforms in other spending and entitlements. Defense spending is brought slowly up to and held at 4 percent of GDP.

          Non-­defense discretionary spending is set for 2013 at the BCA sequester level and then reduced to 2 percent of GDP, after which it is indexed to inflation.

The Heritage Plan Will Enhance Revenue

As a first step, the Heritage Foundation stresses that we must prevent the horrible consequences of the looming Taxmageddon.  This is accomplished by extending all current tax policies early in 2013.  Businesses and citizens cannot function effectively in the present uncertain tax climate. 

The tax system should be structurally reformed to foster growth, especially for saving and investing.  Also, the new tax system must be much simpler than the current cumbersome tax code.

In Saving the American Dream, Heritage presents and describes a New Flat Tax.  The report tells us:

          Under the New Flat Tax, the individual income tax and the payroll tax are rolled into one system with the same tax rate as is imposed on business income. Also, nearly all other federal levies are repealed, leaving a simple system for both individuals and businesses. Under the New Flat Tax as it applies to individuals, only income used for consumption is taxed, thus eliminating the existing tax bias against saving.

Under the Heritage plan, the New Flat Tax is implemented effective January 1, 2014.

Raising the Debt Limit

The Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011 granted the last increase in the federal government's debt limit.  On January 27, 2012, the debt limit was automatically raised from $15.194 trillion to $16.394 trillion (an increase of $1.20 trillion). 

The current national debt on 11.20.12 (Total Public Debt Outstanding) is $16.293 trillion.  The national debt has increased by $1.070 trillion since January 1, 2012 (in 325 days).  At this rate of increase, the national debt will reach the $16.394 trillion debt limit on December 21, 2012.

This means the lame duck Congress has another task to accomplish -- raise the federal debt limit.  This offers one more opportunity to confront the consequences of reckless spending.  Another credit downgrade is likely, with or without the debt limit increase.

Obviously, this short paper cannot adequately cover either the Heritage Foundation's portion of the Peterson report nor the full Saving the American Dream report.  I strongly recommend these reports to the interested readers.

I am not completely naive on the current situation in Washington.  In this politically-charged environment, I am afraid that sound reasoning and logic will be pushed aside.  Instead, political ideology and posturing may dominate the important negotiations.  For example, the Democrats appear to be bent on class warfare and raising tax rates on the "rich."  It is those so-called "rich" that produce about two-thirds of the jobs in America.

The White House and Congress must take specific steps immediately to avert the job-killing fiscal cliff.  (These are listed on page 50 of the "Solutions Initiative II" report.)  They must also deal with raising the debt limit.

The current schedule has the U.S. House and Senate in Session from November 23 to December 14, 2012.  I think they should remain in Washington, D.C. until they complete their work.  [I will not hold my breath on this one.]

I strongly urge you to contact your elected officials (Congressmen, Senators, and White House).  Ask them to read this report.  More importantly, encourage them to study the Heritage Foundation reports --  Saving the American Dream and the Heritage section of the Peterson "Solutions Initiative II" report (pages 49 - 53).  Our lawmakers do not need to "reinvent the wheel."  The work has been done and the calculations have been verified. 

We can avoid the fiscal cliff and place America on a sound foundation for real growth and prosperity.  It is not too late to "save the American dream!"

The Measure Of Success In The 2012 Election and What Now...

A lot are wondering who truly won and why and what to do now.   Very important questions but indeed what matters most is who measures that success.  We hear the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I think on the measurement of success we need to have perspectives right.

If you are a non-Christian then the measurement will be according to your standards.  I liken it to measuring with metric measures vs the standard.  To build something, you must know which measuring system is being used as it can lead to disastrous results.  Hence the way we look at things matter.  It matters most if you look at things through God's eyes and God's expectations.  Your own feelings of self-importance is of no consequence to an eternal God as your thoughts are certainly no higher than His thoughts.  Like an ant trying to think--there is no comparison.  So with that in mind how should we feel about this election and the results.

Personally, I think if you have done your best according to God's standards then that's what matters to God-- about you.  As a nation he will judge us accordingly but individually maybe differently.  The Bible is God's way of speaking to us and in his Word, He reminds us of Jeremiah who through the world's eye was a failure.  He was not wealthy and was rejected by his neighbors, false priests, and felt many times alone. He spoke of gloom and doom and his message of repentance and turning to God was largely ignored.  But God's measure of success for Jeremiah was his obedience and faithfulness--something that is available to all of us.

With that in mind, continuing in the course of waking this nation to God's ways will be the goal after this election.  It is a goal that probably will not change no matter who wins because those who awake may turn their life around and have an eternal home with the God of heaven and earth.

1.  Contact your House of Representatives (202 224-3121) to start an inquiry for impeachment--they can determine whether it should be done or not and in the inquiry--all Americans will learn why our Navy Seals were left to die by those in authority.  The men who did their duty to fight and die for us deserves the truth to be known at the very least and God said He seeks true worshipers that worship him in Spirit and in Truth.  Truth matters to God.

2.  Contact your House of Representatives to have hearings to shine the light on the vote fraud in the 2012 election and how to prevent it-- in light of what we now know that there are programs that can commit election fraud.  The election system is foundational for a free society so let's do our part to make it so (a quick call.)

3.  Contact your House of Representatives to have hearings on how to make sure our Military's vote is counted right and timely.  The military deserves this.

Yes, Romney Can Do What Reagan Did and Produce 12 Million Jobs

Romney Will Create 12 Million Jobs

The Reagan Plan produced an economic recovery that created 250,000 jobs per month over the first three years.  Romney's Plan for 12 million jobs in four years also equates to 250,000 jobs per month.  These 12 million jobs will help middle class families move forward and restore the American dream.

Because of the similarities between Reagan's Plan and Romney's Plan, I can safely predict that the Romney Plan will be successful!  A Romney White House will create an abundance of jobs and will put millions of people back to work! 

Governor Mitt Romney excites Americans with his plan to create 12 million new jobs in four years.  He mentioned this in his Presidential nomination acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, and he often addresses job creation in his other speeches.

Unquestionably, Mitt Romney's presidential debate performances have propelled him to a dead heat with Obama in this race; but there are other factors at work. 

The economy remains by far the top issue on voters' minds as November 6 approaches.  Romney's business experience and his job creation plan are exactly what our country needs at this time.

Current Employment Picture

The "Employment Situation Summary" for October was released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Friday 11.02.12.

The unemployment rate increased slightly from 7.8% in September to 7.9% in October. 

The number of new jobs added during October was 171,000.  Between September and October, the civilian labor force grew by 578,000.  Our country needs to add at least 135,000 jobs per month to just break even with population growth. 

In October, 12.3 million persons were unemployed; the total number of underemployed persons was 23.0 million.  The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was little changed at 5.0 million people; these individuals accounted for 40.6% of the unemployed.

It is easy to view these figures as just "numbers."  These numbers represent real people.  Think about it -- 23 million people are "underemployed" in this country and are struggling to pay their bills. 

Unemployment is a serious matter.  All of us know people who are out of work.  They frequently lose confidence in themselves; they feel unworthy; and they often are depressed.  Financial problems ensue; homes are lost; marriages are destroyed; and bankruptcies occur.  Unemployment can impose a very heavy human toll.

No matter how Obama tries to spin it, the employment news is not good.  This economy is sick!

When Obama was "selling" his $787 billion Stimulus measure in January 2009, he promised that the unemployment rate would not exceed 8.0% if the bill passed.  His advisors produced a chart that showed unemployment peaking at about 7.8% in 2009 then dropping down to about 5.5% by this time in 2012.  Actual unemployment has far exceeded the White House estimates.

 Lessons from the Reagan Recovery

Ronald Reagan served as the 39th President of the United States from 1981 - 1989. 

 

Reagan inherited a terrible economy from Jimmy Carter. The country spiraled into a deep recession in July 1981 that lasted 16 months and ended in November 1982.

In 1981, President Reagan formulated a plan to revitalize the economy.  His plan included:

1.     Reduce tax rates across the board.

2.     Decrease unnecessary regulations.

3.     Work with the Federal Reserve to maintain a stable monetary policy.

4.     Slow the growth of federal spending.

 

In August 1981, President Reagan signed into law a measure that slashed marginal earned income tax rates by 25 % across the board over a three-year period.

The Reagan tax cut plan also included a reduction in the capital gains tax rate from 28% to 20%. 

What happened when Reagan's Plan was implemented?  After the economy received an unambiguous tax cut in January 1983, personal income tax revenues soared!  Lower tax rates do not mean less tax revenue!

According to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), tax revenues nearly doubled during the 1980s.  Revenues went from about $525 billion in 1980 to about $1 trillion in 1990.  By 1995, tax revenues had climbed to over $1.3 trillion.  (Source: Heritage -- Chart 10).

What about job creation during the Reagan Recovery?

 

The 1981 Recession began in July 1981 and ended in November 1982.  The Reagan Recovery started in December 1982.  I obtained the employment figures for the Fourth Quarter of 1982 (Q IV-1982) and the Fourth Quarter of 1985 (Q IV-1985) from the BLS.  (The fourth quarter is October, November, and December.)

During the Reagan Recovery, employment grew from 99.120 million persons to 107.973 persons in the 36-month period.  This is an employment growth of 8.853 million people (8,853,000).

The Romney Program for Economic Recovery

The Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan Team has developed an excellent plan for producing a real recovery with significant job creation.  The Romney Plan will achieve its objectives with four main economic pillars:

1.  Stop Runaway Federal Spending and Debt

Reduce federal spending as a share of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to 20 % by 2016. 

2.  Reform the Nation's Tax Code to Increase Growth and Job Creation

Reduce individual marginal tax rates across-the-board by 20 %.  Keep the current low tax rates on dividends and capital gains.

Reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 % to 25 %.  The U.S. now has the highest corporate tax rate in the world!

3.  Reform Entitlement Programs to Ensure Their Viability

Gradually reduce growth in Social Security and Medicare for more affluent seniors.  Give more choice in Medicare and provide block grants to states for Medicaid.

4.  Make Growth and Cost-Benefit Analysis Important Features of Regulation

Remove regulatory impediments to energy production and innovation. 

Repeal Dodd-Frank Act and repeal Obamacare!

Evaluation of Romney's Job Creation Plan

Is it reasonable for Romney to create 12 million jobs in four years?   This plan equates to creating 250,000 jobs per month over his first four-year term.

Again, let's look at the facts that describe the Reagan Recovery.

When President Ronald Reagan implemented his plan to revitalize the economy, economic activity soared.  Unemployment dropped by 3.6% in 3 years.   Employment grew by about 9 million people in the 36-month period.  This equates to an average employment growth rate of 250,000 jobs per month.

The economy quickly expanded under Reagan's plan.  The Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased about 8% in 12 months and 18% in 36 months.

In 1981, the stock market was at 875 (compared to about 13,000 today).  The Reagan Plan launched an extended period of wealth creation. (Of course, much of this wealth was decimated in the last few years.)

Fact:  Reductions in the tax rates actually produced an increase in total tax revenues.  According to the OMB, tax revenues went from about $525 billion in 1980 to about $1 trillion in 1990.  By 1995, tax revenues had climbed to over $1.3 trillion.  Lower tax rates do not mean less tax revenue; the opposite is true.

Reagan cut marginal income tax rates by 25% across the board over a 3-year period.  Romney proposes a 20% cut in the marginal rates.

Reagan reduced the capital gains tax rate from 28% to 20%.  Romney would keep the current tax rates on capital gains and dividends. 

On the corporate front, the Romney plan would cut the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%.  Currently, the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the world!

The similarities between the Reagan plan and the Romney plan are amazing!  I think it is obvious that the Romney team based much of their plan on the very successful Reagan Plan.  We know what the Reagan Plan accomplished; we can expect similar results from the Romney Plan.

The Reagan Plan resulted in an average job growth rate of 250,000 jobs per month over the 3-year period.  Because Romney's plan is similar to Reagan's fruitful plan, we can predict that Romney's Plan will also succeed.  Romney will create an average of 250,000 jobs per month over his first 4-year term.

When Governor Mitt Romney explains his thoughtful plan, he tells enthusiastic voters that his Energy Independence Policy will create over 3 million new jobs; his Tax Reform Plan will create 7 million jobs for the middle class; and his plan to expand trade and improve job training will bring the total to over 12 million new jobs.

As I have suggested in this report, I think Romney will create the 12 million new jobs just through the tax rate reductions.  When you add in the other elements of his plan (energy independence, trade, and job training), he should easily exceed 12 million new jobs.

After Reagan's tax cut plan was implemented, tax revenues almost doubled in 10 years.  Just think what will happen when more tax revenue flows into the federal treasury.  In combination with spending cuts, the deficits will be reduced and America will eventually see a balanced budget. 

We must elect Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan on November 6 to make this happen!
